This fully framed and limited addition print is of a quite stunning painting commissioned by 3 Rifles to recognise the progress made in Afghanistan's most dangerous town.
In October 2009, the Battle Group of the 3rd Battalion The Rifles, following in the footsteps of several British Battle Groups, both of the Rifles and other distinguished units, deployed to Sangin in Helmand Province. Billed by some as the 'most dangerous place in the world' this small town had become synonymous with the tragic loss of life and injury that this complex counter-insurgency campaign has exacted. But through this bloodshed, danger and fear every great regiment that has faced the challenge has added to the future through sound thought and strong deed.
As the British Army's tenure in Sangin comes to a close, this unique portrait of the town from acclaimed artist Marcus Hodge tells a story all too often forgotten; a difference is made every day. The courage to talk, the courage to think, the courage to do what is right; the courage of our young men and women that has delivered the start of a new future for Sangin. As different generations both in age and outlook mix in the dusty streets of Helmand a new community is built that will be empowered to decide its own future; empowered by the freedom delivered by those who have gone there to protect it. Each Battle Group has in turn left Sangin for the last time in the knowledge that in today already walks tomorrow.
The print is superbly framed in complementary wood and glass and ready to hang. Unfortunately therefore we are unable to send this through the mailing system and would ask interested buyers to collect. There are 6 of these framed prints available. The asking price? £100 each inclusive.
