Regimental Blazer Buttons. The standard double breasted blazer requires 4 x ball buttons (front) and 8 x flat buttons (cuffs). The number and type required for a single breasted blazer is dependant on its style and manufacturer, so please check before ordering.

Rules of VAT (Output Tax) Exemption. From the number of orders we receive from customers who either live, work or serve outside the UK 'demanding' that their purchase is made 'tax free' clearly indicates there is a mis-understanding of their entitlement within UK Law with regard to this concession. Full details of who is entitled to what can be obtained from HM Revenue & Customs Notices 703 & 704 (Retail Exports) and 725 (The Single Market). Further details can be obtained by logging onto http://www.hmrc.gov.uk or by calling the National Advisory Service on 0845 0109000. The quick explanation however is as follows: It is the business (Riflesdirect) which is VAT registered not the individual customer. As a consequence the business is bound by rule of law to charge VAT (Output Tax) on all retail sales. Businesses can of course sell goods VAT free for permanent export: however these are generally those which due to their size and offshore status can participate in a special HMRC scheme to do so. This facility is not available to Riflesdirect. Of course individuals can claim exemption if the purchase is being permanently exported, however this has to be proven prior to the purchase being made, an exemption certificate obtained to accompany the purchase, and finally claimed retrospectively through their own tax office. You are advised to enquire with your own tax office/advisor on how this is achieved. Units serving abroad can claim this tax free concession, but not individuals within it.
Rifles Rank Slides. It has been decreed by the Rifles Regimental Council that with immediate effect Rank Slides both olive and desert will no longer be manufactured with the Rifles embroidered badge on them (Bugle). The reason quite simply is that for some ranks and some Rifles associated units the slide becomes too cluttered. There is a two year 'Waste Out' ruling on this change (complete by May 2011) which means that between now and then, as all current stocks carrying the badge are exhausted they will be replaced with slides minus the badge. In the meantime and until the 'Waste Out' period is complete both types of rank slides are perfectly acceptable. Authority Annex B to LF/CRF/DO/1/5/9 dated 10Jun 09.
